We are celebrating this month after trebling our client base since we bought out the previous Blue Baker Sail and Cover and opened our doors back in 2007 as Sail and Cover. As a former Yacht Broker, I am the Managing Director of Sail and Cover which is based at Woolverstone Marina. We are delighted to report that despite the gloomy global conditions we are still doing remarkably well. I think to be honest those with boats are using their hobby of sailing to relieve the stresses and strains of modern life so we are busier than ever looking after them. Here at Sail & Cover we repair sails, create new bespoke sails, dodgers, spray hoods and covers for cockpits too, in fact any type of boat cover. We have also expanded our working space, initially using a smaller unit here at the Marina, however as the orders have come in, some from as far afield as Aberdeen and Ullapool in Scotland, the team have had to take over a larger space to allow room for the enormous rolls of canvas and sail material used to create new sails and covers. Our express repair service has been especially popular and as Sail and Cover we have travelled throughout Suffolk, Norfolk, Kent, Cambridge and to plenty of vessels on the Thames too to perform this service. We not only promise a fast and efficient repair of sails and covers but also to collect and deliver them again. Our client base, not only expanded, has some interesting names attached to it. Obviously we can’t talk about who’s who in detail but it’s interesting to meet the customers and think – don’t I know you?! A regular client is one of the Country’s leading plastic surgeons who has used us on many occasions.

We have also expanded our operations to include not just covers for yachts and motor boats, we now also supply, under their new Crazypatches brand, Lazypatch garden hammocks, windbreaks, garden shades and weather-proof colourful beanbags for your garden. We work with the public as well as businesses and charities and I’m proud to say we did all the shades for the Cambridge Botanic Gardens for their entrance kiosks this year too plus we’ve just completed some work for the Woolverstone Project, repairing sails for some of the boats used by disabled sailors. We provide our time for this very worthwhile project at no fee and it’s worth it just to see what a difference the volunteers at The Woolverstone Project make to the lives of those who would otherwise be unable to sail. Sail and Cover has recently been called upon to provide large mats for Judo – Tatami’s, traditional Japanese floor coverings.

Thankfully all this current market doom and gloom is only making us busier as people seem to want to escape by enjoying Suffolk’s waterways and their own gardens too.’ For more information of all products both for Sail & Cover and Crazypatches log onto www.sailandcover.co.uk or call the Sail & Cover team on 01473 780075.

Until next time – happy sailing, Sarah x
